Rachel Salamatian, Ph.D.
I am a researcher studying identity development and interpersonal perception, with a focus on how people construct meaning around the self across social contexts. My work applies mixed methods and computational social science, integrating thematic and narrative analysis with natural language processing, Bayesian modeling, and multilevel statistical approaches. Across projects, I design complex interpersonal studies (e.g., dyads, round robins, video interactions) and work with diverse, underrepresented samples nationwide.
Research Areas
How we perceive ourselves
Refining a cultural approach to multiracial identity development: self-concept structure, navigation strategies, rites of passage, and agency/communion.
How we perceive others
Understanding interpersonal stereotypes around race, gender, SES, political ideology, religiosity, and ethnoracial ambiguity.
Regional identity mapping
Mapping U.S. regions and acculturation pockets (in progress): how cultural markers cluster geographically and psychologically.
